CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson volleyball ran into the second-ranked team in the country on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 25, and Pitt left town with a straight-sets ACC win, 25-16, 25-9, 25-14.
The Panthers controlled the net all match. Pitt finished with 14 blocks and held the Tigers to a negative hitting percentage for the day.
Anika Groom gave Clemson an early spark with five kills in the opening set, but Pitt pulled away to take it by nine. The second set got away quickly when the visitors scored 10 of the first 11 points, prompting a Clemson timeout.
Head coach Jackie Simpson Kirr shuffled her lineup for the third set, and the Tigers hit better for a stretch, trailing 15-9 at the technical timeout before Pitt closed it out.
The loss leaves Clemson at 8-14 overall and 2-8 in the ACC. The Tigers go on the road next, playing at Louisville on Oct. 30 and at Notre Dame on Nov. 1.
