CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson outlasted Syracuse 35-33 in a third set that ran to 68 total points on Sunday, closing a 3-0 volleyball sweep at Jervey Gym by scores of 25-16, 26-24 and 35-33.
That last set, with repeated ties and set points traded by both sides, was the highest-scoring set the Tigers have played in the modern scoring era. Kennedy Wagner ended it with a kill set up by Katherine Sandt.
The Tigers pulled away late in the opener on a 7-1 run fueled by Talea Mitchell kills and an Addi Rains ace. In the second, Syracuse pulled even at 24, but an Anika Groom kill and an Orange attack error sealed it for Clemson.
Kiernan Stamey paced Syracuse with 13 kills and two aces, and Yuka Urano had a match-high 16 digs.
Clemson improved to 8-12 overall and 2-6 in the ACC. The Tigers stay home next weekend, facing SMU on Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. and Pitt on Oct. 25.
