SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Clemson left Syracuse, N.Y., with an 18-13 win Saturday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome, getting every point from four Nolan Hauser field goals and one defensive touchdown.
Jahiem Lawson scooped a loose ball and ran 22 yards for the game’s only Tiger touchdown after Kourtney Kelly sacked Steve Angeli for a 10-yard loss in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 18-6. Syracuse never gave up an offensive touchdown. The Orange later cut it to 18-13 on a scoring catch by tight end Daunte Bacheyie with 3:12 left, but Lawson hit Angeli as he threw and Ashton Hampton intercepted the pass in the end zone.
Hauser made kicks of 32, 36, 37 and 54 yards, the long one his fourth from 50-plus this year and a school mark. Tait Reynolds completed 17 of 28 throws for 161 yards and ran for 61, including a third-and-8 conversion with 2:51 to go. Jarvis Green added 85 yards on the ground, 53 of them on the opening snap.
The Tigers finished with 359 yards. Syracuse held them to 197 yards passing, the fifth opponent the Orange have kept under 200 through the air this fall. Ahmad Miller ran for 101 yards on 20 carries, and Angeli went 18 of 40 for 263 yards. Clemson is 6-3 and 4-2 in the ACC. Syracuse is 4-5 and 2-5.
The result was the 118th regular-season league win of Dabo Swinney’s career, moving him past Bobby Bowden’s ACC mark of 117, and Clemson’s sixth straight conference road victory. The Tigers return home next week to Memorial Stadium at 1 Avenue of Champions, an 81,500-seat venue, to face Georgia Tech at 12:30 p.m. on Senior Day.
