TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Clemson heads into Doak S. Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Halloween night looking to shake off last Saturday, when Virginia Tech beat the Tigers late in a game Clemson had chances to close out.
Both ACC programs are hovering around .500. Clemson is one game over the mark, while Florida State comes in at 3-4 overall and 1-3 in league play, so the winner gains real ground in the race for bowl eligibility.
The matchup to watch is up front. The Seminoles have given up 18 sacks this season, and Clemson ranks 22nd in the country in defensive havoc rate at 18.5 percent. The Tigers have also held opponents to 185 passing yards a game with four interceptions.
Flip the field and the picture is tougher for Clemson. Its line has allowed 21 sacks in front of freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds, and the offense has thrown for just two touchdowns through seven games. Florida State has 19 sacks and piled up 10 of them in its lopsided win over Virginia earlier this month.
That puts weight on Clemson kicker Nolan Hauser, who has already made 18 field goals and has been the steadiest part of the Tigers attack.
