CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson football starts a new week at 4-3 overall and 2-2 in ACC play, and head coach Dabo Swinney is talking about resetting the season after Virginia Tech won at Memorial Stadium on the night of Oct. 24.
The deciding moment came with under two minutes left. Facing fourth-and-1 at the Clemson 5-yard line, the Hokies passed up a short field goal, and quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer hit tight end Luke Reynolds in the end zone for the go-ahead score. Clemson had one more chance, but the drive ended when Mylachi Williams sacked Tait Reynolds on fourth-and-9 at the Clemson 49.
Offense was the problem most of the night. The Tigers went to halftime with only 94 total yards and three points, and Swinney put the blame on his staff rather than his players.
After the game, Swinney said he would sit down with offensive coordinator Chad Morris to work on fixes, and he acknowledged the team will need to shift some of its goals with a third loss on the record.
Virginia Tech, in its first season under James Franklin, moved to 6-2 and 3-2 in the league.
Clemson has five regular-season games left. Next up is a road game at Florida State, which is 3-4 and coming off an open week, in Tallahassee.
