Jack Leggett’s Ring of Honor turn was set for Saturday night

Scene for Jack Leggett's Ring of Honor turn was set for Saturday night

Clemson set a Memorial Stadium recognition of former baseball coach Jack Leggett for Saturday night's football game with Miami. The athletic department elected him on June 17. The Ring of Honor is the highest award that office gives. Someone has to have left a lasting mark on Clemson sports, must already be in the athletic Hall of Fame, and must have finished a four-year degree.

He is the third baseball name on that list, following Bill Wilhelm and Rusty Adkins. In 22 seasons from 1994 to 2015 his Clemson clubs went 955-480-1, second in program victories to Wilhelm. Twenty-one of the 22 teams made the NCAA tournament. Six of those years reached the College World Series, and three of the six got to the sport's final four. The baseball program retired his No. 7 in 2023.

Add head-coaching years at Vermont and Western Carolina and the victory total is 1,332, a figure that shares 13th place among Division I coaches. Before any of the coaching stops he was a three-time all-conference infielder at Maine, and he also played defensive back and placekicked there.

Both accounts placed the salute on that Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. They were written as advance notes, so this draft does not describe a ceremony past what they scheduled.
