CLEMSON, S.C. — Two Clemson players picked up Atlantic Coast Conference weekly awards Monday for their work in the 36-24 road win over Florida State. Safety Jerome Carter III won the league’s defensive back award, while Nolan Hauser was picked as its top specialist.
Carter made five tackles, two behind the line, sacked the quarterback once, picked off one pass and knocked down another. It is his first weekly award. He is the son of a former Seminoles defensive back, and the game in Tallahassee let him match his father’s sack and interception totals at Doak Campbell Stadium.
Hauser made all five of his field goal tries and all three extra points. The five kicks added up to 215 yards, two short of the school mark for a single game. It is his fifth weekly award this fall and seventh overall, and he is 23-of-24 on field goals, the most makes in the country.
The two awards give the Tigers 10 weekly league honors this season.
The loss pushed Florida State to 3-5, and the school fired head coach Mike Norvell after six and a half seasons. Clemson goes back on the road Saturday, Nov. 7, to face Syracuse at noon.
