Clemson Football Shifts Focus to LSU After Fall Camp

Clemson football is now concentrating on its season opener against LSU, following the conclusion of preseason practices. Head coach Dabo Swinney announced that the team would shift its focus to the first opponent when activities resumed on August 24, moving away from general season preparation. The Tigers are preparing for their September 5 game in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Swinney indicated that he aims to have all game preparations finalized by the weekend preceding kickoff. The week leading up to the game will then be dedicated to refining details. He emphasized the importance of being fully prepared to avoid extensive work during game week itself.

A key decision still pending for Clemson is the starting quarterback. The team has not yet named a starter between Christopher Vizzina and Tait Reynolds. Swinney previously stated on August 15 that the choice might not be made until game day. In a past preseason quarterback competition involving Kelly Bryant, Trevor Lawrence, and Chase Brice, Bryant was named the Week 1 starter the Monday before the game.

Beyond the quarterback position, Swinney also noted that the pecking order for both offensive and defensive linemen is still being determined. The team is also using this period for rest and rehabilitation for players. Practices during fall camp, held both indoors and outdoors at Jervey Meadows and Memorial Stadium, occurred during a period of record heat in South Carolina.

With fall camp concluded, the Tigers will now adhere to the NCAA’s in-season practice restrictions. These limits include a maximum of 20 hours of practice per week, no more than four hours per day, and a maximum of two full-pad, tackling practices per week. Teams are also required to have one day off each week.
