Clemson Baseball Secures New Commitment
Clemson University’s baseball program, under Erik Bakich, continues to build its 2028 recruiting class with the addition of left-handed pitcher Ethan Obyrne from Jackson High School in Ohio. Obyrne announced his commitment on Thursday, October 1, stating his excitement to continue his baseball career at Clemson University.
Obyrne is recognized by Prep Baseball Report as the eighth-ranked junior in Ohio for the Class of 2028. As a sophomore, he pitched 46.3 innings, achieving a 1.36 ERA and a 6-2 record for Jackson. His performance included 60 strikeouts, 20 walks, and a WHIP of 0.91. He also threw two complete games, one of which was a no-hitter. His 1.36 ERA was sixth in the Stark County area, and his 60 strikeouts tied for ninth. Notable games from his season include a 16-strikeout no-hitter against McKinley and a two-hit shutout of St. Ignatius in a Division I regional semifinal. Obyrne contributed to Jackson securing its third consecutive district championship and a share of its fifth straight Federal League title.
Obyrne is the second 2028 prospect to commit to Clemson this week, joining shortstop Peter Pignatiello. Catcher Henry Tutera and right-handed pitcher Finn Boyles have also announced verbal commitments in recent weeks. The Clemson Tigers baseball team, which plays in the ACC, had a 31-26 record last season.
