CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson University will need a new technology chief next year. Brian Voss, the vice president and chief information officer, plans to retire when 2026 ends, wrapping up five years in the job.
Voss took the post in February 2022, after two earlier stints as interim CIO at Clemson. He will not leave campus right away: he is set to advise the Office of the Provost through 2027 to keep major IT projects on track.
His time in Clemson was marked by a rebuilt and more secure campus network, a stronger cybersecurity program and an expanded Palmetto research computing system. He has also led technology work tied to the university’s AI Initiative.
His exit follows by only days a university buyout offer, made to upward of 400 workers, aimed at trimming costs.
Before Clemson, Voss held leadership posts at Indiana University and was the top technology officer at both the University of Maryland and LSU. The university plans a national search for his successor.
