CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson’s 2027 recruiting class lost a linebacker for good this week when RJ Hudson, who had backed out of his pledge to the Tigers, announced he will play for Texas.
Hudson, a three-star prospect from Varina High School in Richmond, Virginia, made his choice right after an official visit to Austin that wrapped up Sunday. He is listed at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds and became the 22nd member of the Longhorns’ class.
He had chosen Clemson in June, roughly a week after the Tigers offered him a scholarship, and spent June 12-14 on campus for an official visit. Texas began recruiting him over the summer and stepped up its push once the season started, and Hudson reopened his recruitment to take the trip to Austin.
Most recruiting services rate him as an edge rusher, but Clemson had planned to use him at linebacker. As a high school junior he made 45 tackles, including 13 sacks, and added two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception.
That leaves Bryce Kish, rated four stars, and Max Brown, rated three stars, as the only linebackers still pledged to the Tigers for 2027.
