CLEMSON, S.C. — A house going up on Bowman Field this week will get help from an unusual crew on Friday, when students from Virginia Tech’s Habitat for Humanity chapter join Clemson volunteers on the annual homecoming build.
The project is run by the Clemson University chapter of Pickens County Habitat for Humanity, now in its 33rd year of building a home on campus during homecoming week. It is the first time a campus chapter from Clemson’s homecoming opponent has taken part.
Work started last Wednesday, and crews aim to wrap up by Friday, Oct. 23. The Hokies chapter will help Friday and Saturday ahead of the 7 p.m. kickoff between the two schools at Memorial Stadium.
People can tour the finished frame on Bowman Field through Saturday. On Sunday it will be hauled to a lot on Erin Lane in Pickens, where volunteers and the future owners will finish it together. Past homecoming houses have gone to teachers, veterans and other local families.
The build shares Bowman Field with Central Spirit’s float competition, which has about 40 student groups working on 12 floats under this year’s Flight 1889 theme. Floats are judged Friday at 3 p.m., and the 70th Tigerama pep rally follows at 8 p.m. in Memorial Stadium.
