LIBERTY, S.C. — A Clemson University Tiger Transit bus ran off Highway 123 near Liberty on Monday morning, and six people, the driver among them, were taken for medical care.

According to Clemson University, the commuter bus on the CU-ICAR line was headed for Clemson out of Greenville, and no other vehicle was involved in what officials called a single-vehicle crash. University officials described every injury as not life-threatening, and those hurt were sent on for treatment right away.

Eleven people were on board. The wreck happened in Pickens County near the Cartee Road exit, roughly 13 miles from campus, at about 10:34 a.m. The bus left the road and struck the Pickens County Commerce Park sign, knocking bricks loose from its wall and leaving trees and debris scattered nearby. Its front end was caved in and the windshield had been knocked out.

Riders on the CU-ICAR line are mostly university employees and students shuttling among Clemson, Easley and the school’s automotive research campus in Greenville. The university has not said what caused the bus to leave the highway.
