CLEMSON, S.C. — A 25-year-old Greenville man with no connection to Clemson University has been charged after a student was groped inside Cooper Library, according to campus police.
The Clemson University Police Department said the man groped a female student on the library’s first floor on Oct. 8. Investigators believe he got into the building by slipping in behind people who had authorized access.
Officers arrested him on Wednesday, Oct. 14. He faces three second-degree assault and battery counts. A release about the arrest went out to students and faculty that evening.
Campus police thanked the victims for coming forward, saying what they told investigators helped lead to the arrest. The department also asked people on campus not to hold doors for strangers trying to enter buildings behind them and to speak up about anything that seems off.
Charges filed in Clemson go to the 13th Circuit solicitor’s office, which prosecutes crimes in Greenville and Pickens counties.
