PALO ALTO, Calif. — No. 5 Clemson men’s soccer erased a first-half deficit and scored three second-half goals to beat No. 13 Stanford 3-2 on Sunday night in Palo Alto, Calif., improving to 10-2-1 overall and 4-1 in the ACC.

Stanford led 1-0 at halftime after a 31st-minute penalty kick. Clemson equalized in the 73rd minute when Mason Jimenez converted a penalty after Remi Okunlola was fouled in the box, then trailed 2-1 in the 76th before Ransford Gyan leveled in the 82nd on an Okunlola assist.

About 81 seconds later, a deflection off a Stanford defender produced an own goal that made it 3-2. Clemson held on the final seven minutes for the ACC road win. The Tigers finished with a 12-11 shot edge and a 5-3 corner advantage. Goalkeeper Gaizka Garcia made two saves for his second win of the season.

Gyan’s goal was his team-leading 10th of the year. Okunlola extended a team-high assist total to seven. Jimenez scored his second goal of the season on the penalty. Stanford fell to 8-3-1 and 1-3-1 in league play and absorbed a third straight home loss.

Clemson University fields the Tigers program that returns to Historic Riggs Field on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. against Louisville on ACC Network. Stanford travels to Dallas to face SMU on Oct. 16.

The Cardinal struck first from the penalty spot through Alex Chow and briefly restored a lead when Jayden Fitzgerald Boes finished at the doorstep. Clemson answered both times and closed the match a man up after a Stanford red card in the 82nd minute.
