Pickens County Council is scheduled to meet Monday, Oct. 5, with a second-reading vote queued on extending a temporary development moratorium and related land-use measures.
The proposed extension would keep a pause on accepting and processing permits for commercial lodging and solar farms countywide and, along the S.C. Highway 8 corridor, for major subdivisions of three or more lots and multifamily dwellings. Council is also set to take up ordinances on solar energy utilities and development area maps.
The Monday agenda follows a late September meeting that drew a large crowd to discuss a proposed hotel ordinance and a lake overlay aimed at limiting development near Lake Keowee and Lake Jocassee to protect drinking water and the lakes’ character. No votes were taken that night, and neighbors were not given a chance to speak during that session.
Monday’s packet also includes a report from the Unified Development Standards Ordinance ad hoc committee, an update on a proposed task force, a museum presentation and a county compensation study update from the administrator.
The Oct. 5 session is the council’s next regular meeting after the September development debate.
