A pedestrian died Saturday night in Anderson after a vehicle struck him and left the scene, county officials said.

Anderson County 911 took the call just after 9:45 p.m. near McDuffie and Catlett streets. Responders found the man dead when they arrived. On Sunday, the Anderson County Coroner’s Office named the victim as Robert Anthony Tucker, 62, of Anderson.

Investigators determined Tucker was struck while crossing McDuffie Street. The driver did not remain at the scene, and the vehicle had not been identified. The coroner’s office listed the cause of death as multiple traumatic injuries and classified the manner as accidental. An autopsy has been scheduled to aid the inquiry.

The case remains open with the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. Officials have not released a vehicle description or any arrests.

Anyone who saw a vehicle leave the McDuffie and Catlett area about 9:45 p.m. Saturday is asked to contact investigators through local law enforcement.
