Clemson has put its name on a joint letter with Florida State, Miami, and North Carolina. The four Atlantic Coast Conference campuses want the U.S. House to rewrite the conference-switching portion of the Protect College Sports Act. A check on Saturday found that Clemson did sign. The letter is addressed to Speaker Mike Johnson.

The schools ask that big conferences be allowed 22 members instead of the 20 written into the current text, and that Congress remove a requirement that a departing school spend time as an independent before it can enter another league. Under the language that left the Senate, that pause would run three years, and the limit would end six years after the statute took effect. Senators passed the bill 77 to 23. An amendment on the floor had already lifted the ceiling from 19 schools to 20.

The four campuses say the request is a narrow adjustment, not an attempt to sink the whole bill, while the measure sits with the House. The conference office has said it will go on supporting every one of its 18 members as those schools deal with Congress themselves.
