# UWG Women’s Golf Finishes Fourth at Clemson Tiger Classic

The University of West Georgia (UWG) women’s golf team began its 2026-27 season at the Tiger Classic in Clemson on Monday, securing a fourth-place finish overall. The team also saw two individual golfers place in the top 10, including the tournament’s runner-up.

Emma Baier, a native of Quito, Ecuador, led the Wolves, finishing just one shot behind Augusta’s Sarah Walker, who claimed individual medalist honors. Baier recorded seven birdies and only three bogeys throughout the 36-hole event. She shot a 72 in the first round, followed by a bogey-free 68 in the second round, establishing a new career-best for UWG.

The Wolves initially led after 18 holes with an even-par team round but were ultimately surpassed by 45th-ranked Clemson, Augusta, and East Carolina. Clemson won the event with a three-over total, finishing five shots ahead of UWG.

Sophomore Sophie Dhaliwal tied her career-best in the first round with a two-under 70. She reached four-under for the tournament midway through the second round before finishing at even-par, securing a seventh-place individual finish.

Amalia Ortega made her UWG debut, shooting a 71 in the opening round and a 78 in the second, placing 24th. Alba Cáliz Rejas, from Madrid, Spain, also debuted, opening with a 75 and finishing with a 76, earning 34th place. True freshman Myla Rookard completed her first collegiate action in 50th place with rounds of 81 and 84.

Playing as individuals, Sofia Mondragon and Anna Olesen improved their scores in the afternoon rounds. Mondragon shot an 81 in the first round and a 70 in the second, making six birdies, to finish 34th. Olesen opened with an 82 and then shot an even-par 72, placing 41st.

UWG’s next competition is scheduled for September 14-15 at The Velvet in Paducah, Kentucky.
