# Five Golfers Face High Stakes at TOUR Championship

The TOUR Championship, set to begin on August 26, 2026, at East Lake Golf Club, presents significant opportunities and challenges for several top golfers. After two weeks of playoffs and seven months of regular season play, reaching this championship marks a consistently strong season.

Wyndham Clark has the chance to secure the Player of the Year award with a victory, which would cap off a career-best season. Clark, who was outside the world’s top 70 in April, has made a notable mid-season reversal, and a win would place him among the top three golfers globally, alongside Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.

Rory McIlroy aims to extend his record for FedExCup victories. He currently holds three titles, with Tiger Woods being the only other golfer to win more than once (2007, 2009). A fourth FedExCup win would further solidify McIlroy’s standing, especially given his seven Race to Dubai titles on the DP World Tour. Such a win would also mark his fifth consecutive multi-win season on the PGA TOUR.

Jacob Bridgeman, winner of The Genesis Invitational, is on the bubble for the U.S. Presidents Cup Team. Currently 12th in the U.S. Presidents Cup points list, Bridgeman’s performance at the TOUR Championship could influence captain Brandt Snedeker’s picks, which are expected shortly after the event. Bridgeman leads the TOUR in Strokes Gained: Putting this season, but his recent form has cooled since THE PLAYERS Championship in March.

Patrick Cantlay, 13th in Presidents Cup points, also seeks a captain’s pick. Despite reaching the season finale, this year has not been among Cantlay’s strongest, as he fell out of the Official World Golf Ranking’s top 40 for the first time since 2017. A runner-up finish at the BMW Championship helped him jump into the FedExCup’s top 30. A win at East Lake would reverse his season’s narrative and secure his first victory in four years.

The Rookie of the Year race could be decided between Alex Fitzpatrick and Kristoffer Reitan. Reitan, who won the Truist Championship, holds a slight edge at 20th in the FedExCup standings compared to Fitzpatrick at 24th. However, Fitzpatrick earned his PGA TOUR card later in April by winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and has since achieved four top-10 finishes in Signature Events. The outcome of their performances at the TOUR Championship is likely to be the deciding factor for the award.
