# Clemson Tigers Projected Ninth in ACC for 2026 Season

The Clemson Tigers football program faces a challenging outlook for the 2026 season, with one national analyst projecting the team to finish ninth in the Atlantic Coast Conference. This forecast, released by Stewart Mandel of The Athletic on Monday, August 24, 2026, suggests a 6-6 overall record and a 4-4 conference play record for the Tigers.

This prediction follows a disappointing 2025 season where Clemson, despite national championship aspirations, concluded with a 7-6 record and a loss to Penn State in the Pinstripe Bowl. The team has not secured a playoff victory since January 2021, and head coach Dabo Swinney’s reputation has seen a decline since his successful run of four National Championship Game appearances and two wins between 2015 and 2019.

Mandel noted that while some assume Clemson remains highly talented, the team’s performance in 2025, sending nine players to the NFL Draft yet achieving only a 7-6 record, indicates otherwise. The Tigers have also posted a 4-4 conference record in two of the last three seasons, a trend the analyst expects to continue.

Despite the pessimistic projection, the team is acknowledged to possess talent. The roster includes multiple potential first-round NFL Draft picks, such as wide receivers T.J. Moore and Bryant Wesco, and defensively, linebacker Sammy Brown, cornerback Ashton Hampton, and defensive end Will Heldt. The receiving corps also boasts depth with returning upperclassmen Tyler Brown and Tristan Smith, alongside three four-star freshmen: Naeem Burroughs, Gordon Sellars, and Connor Salmin.

Additionally, Clemson acquired former SMU running back Chris Johnson Jr. via the transfer portal, who will join Gideon Davidson in the backfield. Quarterback Christopher Vizzina, a former four-star recruit, is also part of the talented roster. Considering these factors and a relatively easy schedule outside of matchups with LSU and Miami, some believe the Tigers should achieve at least eight wins in 2026, with a double-digit win season not considered out of reach.
